AMD expand the variety of quad-core processors by adding the novelty — Phenom II X4 980 Black Edition — to its product list. The CPU uses K10.5 architecture and is based on 45nm chip. Although stated clock rate is quite high, 3.70 GHz (18.5 x 200 MHz), an unlocked CPU BClk multiplier provides even more room for overclocking and experiments.

Deneb based piece of silicon features four x86-64 cores, each having 512 Kb of cache and 6 MB of L3 cache that is used by all cores. TDP level is 125 W. Integrated memory controller supports dual channel DDR3 and DDR2 memory. The CPU is compatible with Socket AM3 and AM2+. It uses HyperTransport 4 GT/s bus to connect to system chipset.

AMD Phenom II X4 980 Black Edition is priced at $195.
