Soon, AMD will please its fans with yet another Radeon HD 6000 series card. The novelty will have to stand against NVIDIA GeForce GTX 550 Ti graphics card.

According to Internet sources, the new card called AMD Radeon HD 6790, will be based on 40nm Barts GPU, the same processors that is used in HD 6850 and HD 6870 cards. The performance config will include 800 Strem processors (10 SM units) combined into two arrays 400 SPs and one dispatch controllers each. This is a the main change compared to Juniper-based products (HD 57XX и HD 6770) with 800SPs that work under supervision of one common dispatch controller.

Other than that, Barts LE (HD 6790) has 32 ROPs and 40 TMUs as well as 256-bit GDDR5 memory bus. The clock rates for GPU and Memory will be 840MHz and 1050MHz (4200MHz QDR) respectively. To compare with, NVIDIA GTX 550 Ti has clock rates, as follows: GPU/Shaders/Memory — 900/1800/1026 MHz (4104MHz QDR).

AMD Radeon HD 6790 is expected to have TDP level of 115W (19W in Idle) while requesting additional power via one 6-pin connector. The release date is set to 5th of April with MSRP of $149. Meantime, you can take a sneak peak at Sapphire’s variant of HD 6790 graphics card:
