What is new?

The launch of new AMD Radeon HD 6800 haven’t revolutionized the world of graphics. AMD “Barts” graphics processors are essentially based on enhanced architecture of previous generation with some cool features added. AMD pays great attention to efficiency of the new products which resulted in considerable price drop:

One of the cool things to note is that Radeon HD 6800 cards has the best performance per watt as well as best performance per one square mm of the die among other AMD products. This can result in “Barts” based cards being the most energy-efficient solution on the market with power consumption less that 150 watts.

Apart from successful architecture re-design AMD “Barts” also features some new graphics processing technologies as well as new technology to support multiple display connection due to use of the latest HDMI 1.4a and DisplayPort 1.2 interfaces, but we will discuss it later. Right now, let’s look at AMD “Barts” GPU architecture.
