Specification and architecture review of AMD Radeon HD 6900 (AMD Cayman) series graphics cards

Under the sun

At the time this article is published, AMD Radeon HD 6970 will be competing against GeForce GTX 570 that was recently announced. Radeon HD 6950 will take its own niche which will be filled by NVIDIA’s GeForce GTX 560 to debut in January 2010:

Positions of AMD graphics cards on the market in Q4 2010

After Radeon HD 5800 series cards has been replaced by two new series of graphic accelerators, AMD graphics solutions has formed such a tight (in terms of performance) line that we can barely draw a line between AMD Radeon HD 6950 and HD 6870.

And another thing — what’s with industry leadership? The answer is simple — AMD is still a leader with its dual-GPU flagship — ATI Radeon HD 5970. Besides, we will meet a new AMD high-end dual-GPU solution in Q1 2011 — ATI Radeon HD 5970 will be replaced with AMD Radeon HD 6990 graphic card of even greater performance.

Let’s move to specification and prices of newcomers:
