According to latest news, first sample of AMD’s top notch graphics card, the two headed monster — Radeon HD 6990 (codename Antilles), has already arrived at reviews hands. This can only indicate that the official presentation of the graphics card is not far from now. Though first lucky owner are probably aware of final specs of these cards, the last is not allowed to be disclosed until the day X, excluding pics.
Sources claim the NDA will be lifted on 8th of March which can be considered as the launch date. Apart from referenced design cards from AMD, we’ll most likely see some custom cooled solution from AMD’s partners presented the same day.AMD Radeon HD 6990 is expected to be have two Cayman-based GPUs , built using 40nm process logic, operating in CrossfireX mode. Apparently, the clocks will be lowered, compared to full-fledged HD 6970, to meet 300W limits set for graphics cards.
But don’t expect NVIDIA to stand and watch while the “Crown” slips right in front of it. NVIDIA GeForce GTX 590, a counter punch for AMD Radeon HD 6990, should see the light in the mid March.
