ASUS Sabertooth 990FX spotted
The board uses AMD 9950FX/SB950 chipset combo and has Socket AM3+, 4x PCIe x16 slots, one PCIe x1 and one PCI slot, eighteen USB ports, eight SATA ports as well as one eSATA and Power eSATA
Chinese media source zol.com.cn has leaked a photo session of ASUS Sabertooth motherboard based on AMD 990x chipset.
The board is powered through 24-pin power connector, while CPU voltage is supplied via 8-pin power connector. There are eight SATA ports for storage and disk drives and four DIMM slots supporting DDR3-1866 memory.
The novelty uses new AM3+ Socket that is stated to have huge advantage over Socket AM3. On of the advantages of the board is use of high-quality components coupled with high-performance power system — 8+2 phase regulator with digital control.
The motherboard features four PCIe x16 slots as well as one PCIe x1 and one PCI expansion slot. One of PCIe x16 slots runs in x4 mode. Other three distribute lanes in reference with its occupancy. With two slots used they operate in x16 + x16 mode, in case of three slots — x16 + x8 + x8. This allows to use multi-card configs due to both CrossFireX and SLI technology support enabled for 990 FX chipset motherboards
As you see, no video outputs presented, which is typical for 990FX chipset based products, that does not supports CPUs with integrated graphics processors. More details on Sabertooth and other ASUS 9-series chipset motherboards for AMD’s latest processors can be found in our preview article
