Intel corporation is preparing for another production cancellation for older CPUs including hexa-core model — Core i7-970.
Intel corporation is preparing for another production cancellation of older CPUs including hexa-core model Core i7-970. Same time Intel quits fabrication of three mobile processors: Celeron U3400, Core i5-540UM and Core i7-660UM. These CPUs can be ordered till 27th January 2012 with the last OEM-product discontinuance shipment date set for 6th July 2012, while boxed version of Core i7-970 will continue shipping while supplies last.
Current prices and specification details for discontinued products are, as follows:
- Core i7-970: 32nm, 6 cores, clock rate — 4.2-4.46GHz, 12MB of cache, TDP — 130W, $583
- Celeron U3400: 32nm, 2 cores, clock rate — 1.06GHz, 2MB of cache, TDP — 18W, $134
- Core i5-540UM: 32nm, 2 cores, clock rate — 1.2-2.0GHz, 3MB of cache, TDP — 18W, $250
- Core i7-660UM: 32nm, 2 cores, clock rate — 1.33-2.4GHz, 4MB of cache, TDP — 18W, $289
There is no need worry much as by the time these models are completely phased out, Intel will present new ones. Hardware enthusiasts will be pleased with Sandy-Bridge-E line-up, whereas less powerful CPUs will be replaced with more technologically advanced Ivy Bridge products.
