Gigabyte 6 series mobos will feature new technologies

Gigabyte has announced a range of new technologies to feature on new 6 series motherboards

Gigabyte has announced a range of new technologies which will feature on its upcoming 6 series motherboards based on the Intel 6 series chipsets.

At a pre-briefing conference ahead of Computex, Tim Handley, deputy director of motherboard marketing, said the technologies will be launched with Gigabyte’s extreme enthusiast models such as the X58A-UD9, then will make their way down to the high-end and mainstream models later on. They will also appear on the up-coming GA-P67A-UD7 motherboard.

They include the maximum CPU power feature, which combines a 24 phase power design, Dual CPU Power and Driver MOSFETs. There’s also DualBIOS 3TB+ HDD technology, 10 USB 3.0 ports (total of 18 USB ports with 8 USB 2.0), 3-Way SLI/CrossFireX support, and 3x USB Power.

The Gigabyte 6 series motherboards also sport Intel’s Voltage Regulator Down specification (VRD 12) using the Intel qualified Intersil PWM controller, which offers SerialVID (SVID) for transferring power management information between the processor and voltage regulator controller. According to Gigabyte this allows efficient signalling control between the CPU and PWM controller.

The Dual CPU Power technology allows CPU VRM power phases to split evenly into two sets of power engines that operate in tandem. This allows one set of power phases to rest while the other is active as opposed to a traditional power design where all the power phases are always active.

The DualBIOS feature automatically recovers BIOS data when the main BIOS has crashed or failed.
