Intel launches Core i7-980 non-Extreme Edition processor

Just like its predecessor, Core i7-980 is a hexa-core (12 threads) processor with 12MB of L3 cache. The clock rates has not changed a bit, 3,33 GHz. TDP value amounts to 130W. Locked CPU multiplier.

Intel has updated the price list with yet another Socket LGA 1366 processor — Core i7-980. In fact, this is a modification of good old Core i7-980X Extreme Edition that already phased out. As it was said erlier, orders for Core i7-980X are available till 30th of September. After that, it will be replaced with Core i7-980.

Just like its predecessor, Core i7-980 is a hexa-core (12 threads) processor with 12MB of L3 cache. The clock rates has not changed a bit, 3.33 GHz. TDP value amounts to 130W. The processors is made using 32nm process technology with support of Socket LGA-1366. The main difference with Extreme version is that new Core i7-980 will have locked CPU multiplier.

Price-wise, Core i7-980 is almost two times cheaper that its Extreme variant: $583 against $999. (price are for a single unit with minimal orders of 1000pcs per batch).
