Intel releases Core i7-990X six-core processor

The series of extreme-performance CPUs has been widen with a Intel Core i7-990X Extreme Edition, produced using 32nm process technology

The series of extreme-performance CPUs has been widen with a Intel Core i7-990X Extreme Edition, produced using 32nm process technology. The new processor, has an unlocked multiplier which is highly evaluated by hardware enthusiasts and overclockers.

All six core of Core i7-990X run at 3.46 GHz, while its 3.33 GHz for its predecessor — Core i7-980X. CPU supports multi-thread technologies, comes with 12MB of cache and can reach 3.73 GHz in Turbo Boost mode. The TDP value for Core i7-990X is 130W.

The same time the new flagship CPU was released, Intel has dropped prices for earlier models Core i7-960 and i7-970 clocked at 3.2 ГГц. That is, Intel Core i7-960 quad-core CPU with 8MB of L3 cache and made using 45nm process logic, got cheaper almost twice, from $562 to $294 which now puts it in price comparative segment with Intel Core i7-2600. The last is $20 more expensive, though. Concerning six-core Core i7-970 processor with 12MB of L3 cache, it price went down by $302 to $583.
