Top Xeon E3 series server processor, E3-1290, tha has been added to Intel’s price list couple of week ago surfaced in Japan retail.
Intel Xeon E3-1290 uses Sandy Bridge architecture and made for Socket LGA 1155. It is clocked at 3.6GHz, but enabling Turbo Boost allows to run at 4.0 GHz. In fact, this is the first Intel’s processor that is officially specified to work such speed. Other than that, the novelty has four cores 8MB of cache, TDP of 95W and supports Hyper-Threading. Integrated graphics is disabled.
Price wise, Xeon E3-1290 is available for $885 in batches of 1000 samples. To compare, Core i7-2600K, that can easily do both 3.6GHz and 4.o GHZ costs $317.
