Five Intel Z68 based motherboard from ASUS
Asus prepared five motherboards based on Intel Z68 chipset. Besides P8Z68-V, P8Z68-V Pro and P8Z68 DELUXE, we should expect updated version of Maximus IV EXTREME-Z and Maximus IV GENE-Z of Mini ATX form factor
Three Asus motherboards based on Intel PCH Z68c chipset have ATX form factor and feature 16-phase CPU power system called DIGI+, support for up to 32GB of DDR3 2200 memory, extended BIOS settings with UEFI interface and a number of proprietary technologies, like EPU (energy saving feature) and TPU(overclocking support feature). In addition, Asus Z68 motherboards boast of having Lucid Virtu technology implemented.There are three PCIe x16 (2×16 + 1×4) slots for discrete cards and PCIe x1/ PCI expansion slots two of each.
The junior model P8Z68-V is equipped with two SATA 6Gb/s ports, four SATA 3Gb/s and one eSATA 3G (JMicron JMB362) port, one Gigabit LAN (Intel 82579) adapter, four USB 3.0 (ASMedia) and twelve USB 2.0 (six inner, six on I/O panel) ports. Integrated audio codec Realtek ALC 892 supports 8-channel configuration. The I/O panel features DVI, D-Sub and HDMI connectors to provide Integrated Graphics Processor (IGP) output.
P8Z68-V Pro differs by having two additional SATA 6Gb/s (Marvell) ports.
The top model does not have any display outputs, but come with two more SATA 6Gb/s (Marvell 9128) ports. Thanks to JMicron JMB362 chip the board has one eSATA 3G and one Power eSATA 3Gb/s port. The second Gigabit LAN adapter is provided by Realtek 8111E controller. Realtek ALC 889 codec is responsible for sound output while supporting 192kHz/ 24-bit True BD Lossless and Blu-ray audio layer Content Protection formats. There are four USB 3.0 (NEC) and twelve USB 2.0 (eight on I/O panel, four inner) ports available for your peripheral devices. The package also includes ASUS Front Panel USB 3.0 Box.
Soon, Asus Z68 motherboard line will number five models.
The last two models will be expanding Asus ROG product family famous for its overclocking possibilities. To outline the use of a new chipset Asus Maximus IV EXTREME motherboard will have Z index in its name. Smaller size board of mini ATX form factor will be called Asus Maximus IV GENE-Z.
