Noctua NF-S12B FLX — designed to be quiet

Unique color score and silent operation mark out these Austrian made fans among others

Noctua NF-S12B FLX: details

NF-S12B FLX color scheme combines light beige case and dark brown impeller typical for all Noctua fans. The fan is powered win 3-pin wire, no PWM. Cable, considered of standard length — 40cm, is carefully put into black high dense sleeving.

Noctua NF-S12B FLX impeller includes seven blades with sharp attack angle but small surface area. Such design is optimized for creating high air flow under low resistance.

Blade ends have small curves and called “Bevelled”. This is said to reduce the gap between blades and fan frame which results in improved air flow and static pressure. At the same time, this is the place where the most noise is generated, due to airflow friction. Although “Bevelled”blades do reduce the distance between it and fan case, it(the distance) remains quite big.

NF-S12B FLX, same as other Noctua fans, used hydrodynamic SSO-bearing on a magnet. This type of bearings features low noise level and huge MTBF (up-to 150 000 hours). This is why fans come with 6 year manufacturer warranty.

Other than that, Noctua NF-S12B FLX is equipped with second generation of Smooth Commutation Drive (SCD2. This system allows continuous coil switching to excludes torque impulses that can generate additional noises inside motor.

One of the hidden advantages this fan has is low-power usage. Typical power drawn specified for Noctua NF-S12B FLX is only 1.2W (0.1A at 12V)

It’s better this model or new Noctua NF-A12x25 for a radiator on a liquid system?
