Samsung launches 470 Series SSDs

Following Intel’s announcement of 320-series Solid State Drive production start, Samsung company released 470 series SSDs.

Following Intel’s announcement of 320-series Solid State Drive production start, Samsung company released 470 series SSDs. The new line includes three 2.5″ models of 64, 128 and 256 GB


The novelty uses MLC NAND Flash memory produced via 30nm process technology. Samsung made controller supports SATA 3 GB/s interface as well as 256 MB of DDR2 memory. The top model boast of sequential read/write speeds of 250/220 MB/s, other models — 200/170 MB/s respectively. Manufacturer stated read performance for random accessed blocks of 4KB accounts to 43 000 IOPS while for write it is 11 000 IOPS.


Samsung underlines the drives are only 9.5 mm high, which allows it to be used in ultra thin notebooks. New SSDs should become avalable for purchase soon, somewhere in April. Recommended price for the top 256GB model is set around 500 Euros, however, some European e-tailers have these drives for 420 Euros.
