TSMC is almost ready to start 28nm production
TSMC is moving, despite some delays, towards 28nm production start.
Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) which specializes in IC manufacturing for several huge companies, including NVIDIA and AMD, is moving, despite some delays, towards 28nm production start.
The maturity level for 28nm process technology in Q4 2010 was barely reaching 50%. However, things have changed, and currently, FAB12 is 90% ready to produce 28nm chips, says TSMC. The company promises to start supply of 28nm-based products as soon as possible in 2011. Full-power production will be available only by the end of 2011.
In addition, TSMC has urged its suppliers of equipment and materials to speed up R&D for 20nm process.
